Victory in WWII also eliminated our major trade competitors. The U.S. was then able to selectively build up their infrastructure so that it was highly dependant upon U.S. industry. This lead to the economic boom that was the 1950s.

Iraq was , and still is, a trillion dollars thrown away for nothing.
