Scrapps asks about that FCC power limitation--

"What I was wondering is this...has there been any news on what the FCC is doing or has done on this?"

I haven't heard of any progress on this. I believe that USR said they would ask for a waiver for X2, but I have heard nothing about it. On the August 13 news at the 56K web site, they have a quote from a Rockwell guy saying that K56 doesn't need it (but it probably won't go over 53K anyway, because of other factors).

If I were USR, I would be tempted to just wait for the standard and not worry... either the standard gets Rockwell's "different coding schemes" and has no problem, or everyone has to deal with it, and then getting the waiver will be easier.

But I'll bet the request is in an in-basket in Washington right now, working its way though the system.
