Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, "Spouse Maintenance" is also the reason why I am looking into broadband. :-) Still, I hate the prices. :-/

Regarding router, I guess I still don't have an answer - if I want to connect my laptop and desktop to share files and printer, can I just use an Ethernet cable, or do I need a router (switch?).
