Is there a default setting on the order entry to set for cash only or does it always default to margin?, or once I set it to cash will it stay there or default back to margin as I switch between buying and selling stocks?.

Depends on the execution system. Some of the online brokers I have seen require you to specify where you are buying from (ex: waterhouse, you have a pullup menu that lists "cash" and "margin" as accounts to buy from...
