Mohan- you use the word "stabilize" in your message. I would say that just the opposite is the result on the sub-continent as a consequence of the testing. Just what is needed now in that area of the world, in addition to all the economic problems, is a nuclear arms race. A race that neither country can afford.

Even more frightening is the thought of an escalation of a border confrontation, for which the "losing" side chooses the nuclear solution to save its national pride.
