Funny thing. I frequently do a lot of work in a particular studio here in NYC, and the graphics/multimedia team have long since ditched their Jaz drives. This isn't some nobody outfit either. Current clients include IBM, Miramax Films (Disney), and MTV. The Jaz drives' jobs (and their 15 or so carts) now are to collect as much NYC dust as possible.

The graphics guys use Zip drives, but haven't had a need to buy any new Zip discs ever since they invested in CD-RW. The whole studio has converted to CD-RW. Zip is used to occasionally move temporary files around, but all archiving and storage that used to be Zip's job is now CD. As a result, the 50 or so Zip discs that accumulated up until the beginning of this year have been more than enough to satisfy any and all needs ever since CD-R/W became available.

All deliveries of product are done on CD-R. All archiving is done on CD-R. Daily backups are done on CD-RW. This studio has gone through at least 500 or so CD-R's this year. 0 Zip discs bought. None. Nada.

I use the official Roland/JVC/QPS VS-1680 CD-RW drive to backup and archive audio data in my line of work. Yes, Roland Corp offers a CD-RW drive as an option to the VS-1680 audio workstation. No Zip. No Jaz. No Iomega.
