"Why its so big? I presume security considerations play a factor."

It is so big because it includes such essentials as a shopping center with a food court.

And you see no security considerations in embassy personnel shopping in local markets?

OTOH, I do know the State Dept is a world of its own that pretty much does what it wants.

Still I can see a reasonable security argument here.

"Why is this such a big issue for liberals?"

Because it is symbolic. In this country, it is symbolic of the waste that this administration has come to represent. To the Iraqis it is a symbol of our occupation. And that means the resistance will continue for a long while.

Its a Bush adm issue so liberals oppose kneejerk.

As for the "occupation", the freely elected Iraqi govt has an opinion different from yours.

I guess thats why you guys preferrred Saddam.
