Scott:
That comment wasn't directed at you since I agree with what you said...should have clarified that "cheap shot" since you last posted. If you look back aways, there were some posts to VK that told him to sell and get off the board and other pretty strong stuff, one in particular. So, you're right in this respect: comments are getting taken personally and that's not the purpose of this board.
The main point I was trying to make was that all of the stuff on this board should be considered "opinion" only and that included the WSJ, BW, analysts, and Novell PR since it's too early to tell whether this is a "value" stock or ?
By the way, Joe has been telling everybody on this board that an investment in Novell is not, in his opinion, a sure fire winner and has also made it clear that he expects some results by 12/96 or else the option of a "write-off" is there.
And I have maintained all along that Novell has got some tough hurdles to overcome before it's out of the woods and it particularly has to, as a company, convince the business community that it has a viable product line that is going to be around for a long time. Businesses need to know for a fact that they are going to get the support they need when they invest millions in this stuff.
I was accused of causing a lot of people to lose their investments because of all the Novell FUD that I've been posting and I sure don't think that my posting of news articles on here carries that much weight. That is why I did not post the entire S&P report: from now on, I'll post the references and then people can look it up or ignore it. Anyway, I think that's probably a good idea: give us the URL or whatever source the story came from and if we think it carries weight, we can look it up.
Also, take a look at the last two references I posted, the one from S&P and the one from I.I. and you'll see that one is positive and one is negative and says not to buy Novell even at these prices so there you have it...two opinions from two investment sources. Which one is right? Each investor has to decide for himself and I sure hope that everyone on here knows that.
That said, my opinion of Novell has not changed: I still think that this is not a stock for conservative investors but I also think that Novell has as good a chance as any to give a big enough reward to merit the risk for those who have some speculative money.
Compared to other tech stocks, the risk/reward of Novell is at least as good as most; even Microsoft, as strong a company as it is, has a "speculative" nature at these prices in the sense that if you pay 136 a share, you may end up with a 1200 stock in ten years or you may end up taking a dive. |
