Autodesk Design Software Wins Prestigious Awards Worldwide
Top Design Industry Publication and International Trade Show Honor Autodesk Products Serving the Building, Manufacturing, Mobile Design, and Mapping Industries
SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 6, 2001-- Autodesk, Inc. (Nasdaq:ADSK - news), the world's leading design software and digital content company, today announced that six of its products won prestigious awards for leadership and innovation in improving customers' design and production processes. Serving customers in the building, manufacturing, mobile design, and mapping industries, Autodesk Inventor(TM) 5 was awarded the Crystal Disk Award in the Application Software for Professional Usage category at INVEX, the largest Czech and Slovak Information Technology trade show in central eastern Europe, and Autodesk® Architectural Desktop 3.3 with Autodesk® Building Mechanical and Autodesk® Building Electrical, AutoCAD® Mechanical 6, and Autodesk® OnSite View 2 were awarded Editors' Choice Awards from CADENCE Magazine, the world's largest independent computer aided design (CAD) magazine.

``The recognition and enthusiasm we have received from customers, industry-leading publications like CADENCE, and at noteworthy trade shows like INVEX confirm that we are increasingly raising the bar to build and deliver the best design and collaboration tools on the market,'' said John Sanders, executive vice president of the Design Solutions Division at Autodesk. ``We've come a long way from AutoCAD. Our current product line offers powerful suites of products to designers in the building, manufacturing, and geographic information systems industries, supporting model-based design and customization to improve productivity and accuracy.''

Crystal Disk Award at INVEX

The Crystal Disk Award is considered to be one of the most prestigious prizes in the field of information technology. A two-round evaluation of products registered at INVEX is conducted by a specialized jury consisting of 35 representatives of cooperating trade periodicals and groups of specialists from the ranks of academia, professional users, and the media. In total, 66 products competed in nine categories. Of those 66 products, 31 were nominated and only one was selected as the Crystal Disk Award winner in each category.

According to the judges, ``Autodesk Inventor software was chosen for its 3D modeling ability to intuitively support the work of MCAD designers at a high level. Technical parameters that can be emphasized are its openness to standards, adaptive modeling, and highly effective algorithms.''

CADENCE Editors' Choice Awards

``Autodesk has developed and delivered an impressive, diversified portfolio of products that are on the cutting edge,'' said Arnie Williams, editor-in-chief of CADENCE Magazine. ``They have raised the bar for excellence in CAD software by helping their customers do more with their design data.''

Autodesk was the only company to win more than one award, with three products honored. Winners were judged on innovation, trend setting, and how the product helps move the industry forward. CADENCE judges, product reviewers, and members of its editorial advisory board reviewed CAD products released within the last six months, as well as products that had not been previously reviewed.

Autodesk Inventor 5

Autodesk Inventor software is the premier high-performance 3D mechanical design solution from Autodesk, delivering single-day productivity through an intuitive workflow, a simplified user interface, and an advanced help and support system. The software successfully combines 2D capabilities with the power of 3D, delivers industry-leading DWG compatibility, and offers the best value to mechanical engineers interested in moving into 3D design. Further, with innovative adaptive technology at its core, Autodesk Inventor software delivers exceptional performance when working with large assemblies.

AutoCAD Mechanical 6

AutoCAD Mechanical 6 offers enhanced tools, building IGES translation, improved workflow and standards compliance, as well as simpler administration and deployment. AutoCAD Mechanical 6 operates with Autodesk® Mechanical Desktop® 6 and the 3D design system, Autodesk Inventor.

Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3

Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 integrates web-enabled tools for conceptual design, architectural design development, and construction documentation. An expansion of capabilities allows architects to focus on essential design activities by reducing workflow inefficiencies and drafting inaccuracies.

Autodesk Building Mechanical, Autodesk Building Electrical

Running on top of Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3, Autodesk Building Mechanical and Autodesk Building Electrical bring efficient model-based design to mechanical and electrical engineering disciplines, enhancing design coordination during design development and construction documentation.

Autodesk OnSite View 2

Autodesk OnSite View is a stand-alone mobile design tool that enables users to access large, complex digital drawings and maps via handheld and tablet computers at the point of work. The solution enables users to review and mark up maps and drawings in the field, including AutoCAD® DWG and DXF(TM) file formats, as well as easily synchronize data between the portable device and a desktop computer via Microsoft® ActiveSync® technology.

Autodesk Subscription Program

These products are available through the Autodesk Subscription Program, which provides a simple, less disruptive way to keep Autodesk software up-to-date and supported. The program makes it easier and more cost effective for customers to receive enhancements to their software in easily digestible installments, as they become available, without the individual purchase, implementation, and training required of upgrades. It also maximizes productivity by providing downloadable e-Learning for smooth adoption of the extensions, and offers optional online support.
