You are correct about the LS-120 BIOS issue to a degree. 1) BIOS support is only necessary for the LS-120 to be the 'A' (boot) drive, otherwise device drivers will pick it up. 2) New BIOS are available which support LS-120 (and ZIP, I believe). 3) There is a special floppy controller called the Maxfloppy controller (should have called it the LSjet), which allows the LS120 to be recognized by existing bios as the 'A' drive.

Personally, I'm happy using my EIDE Syjet as my boot device...
