I couldn't possibly read their minds. I can only guess.

Perhaps they think that our leadership will eventually believe we are invulnerable and start acting like it. That in some future conflict some future American leaders might take things right up to and across the brink - because after all we are protected by this impenetrable shield.

Missile defence sounds like a good idea. I'd be in favor of it if I thought it'd work. But based on what some qualified experts say (see the link I posted earlier), we aren't there. If the same people I quoted reverse their decision in 5 or 10 years, then I would change my mind accordingly.
