From Briefing.com on Friday: 1:44PM Sector Watch: Semiconductor : The semi index (SOX +0.1%) has slipped in recent trade after a second failure to work through the 404/405 area (mid-month low, this week's high) with XLNX -1.2%, AMAT -2.9%, LSI -2.7%, BRCM -2%, TER -1.4% leading the way. On a positive note, checks indicate UMC has been inquiring about trailing edge tools to potentially facilitate manufacturing fabs on mainland China.

8:27AM MEMC Elec upgraded to Buy at Merrill (WFR) 4.62: Merrill Lynch upgrades to near-term BUY from Neutral. WFR has completed a significant financial and manufacturing restructuring that should provide significant margin leverage. Firm believes stock could return to 2.5x sales, or $9.
