Were you so bad? Not if you were on the LWP BR thread. Actually, your approach is quite reasonable for a thread where it is appropriate. But this thread explicitly states:

Please take political discussion in which you would like to engage with people of all political stripes to the Boxing Ring thread referenced below:

The only reason to bring it to this thread is to try and prove a point about how far you can stretch the rules or to disrupt the thread.

It just isn't necessary.
