OT -- Yes, I saw the wax model a few years ago in Comdex along with a 3D scanner that looked like a blow dryer. The exciting new developements are that (a) you can now use metal/ceramic material for better structural integrity (and according to the article, the list of material is growing to leather and slew of other things). And (b) we are close to creating multi-material "printing".

If we can have the 3D equivalent of 4-color printing -- say metal, plastic, leather, and glass -- then we could create many temporary spare parts and working prototypes on the fly. I am not holding my breath for getting glasses or fancy new material out of the box. The "simple" 4-color printing would do wonders for your friendly Kinkos/copy center.
