What a wonderful description! I can see it perfectly, and will think of you in it from now on- there or in a canoe! And if I feel lonely, I'll put myself in it with you, cup of tea in hand.

I think it was Maxine Kumin who wrote in a poem "like a house without a kitchen". Isn't that a great line? So much of a family's life happens in the kitchen.

I love my own kitchen. The kind of real cooking that goes on in yours and Gaugie's does NOT take place here, although I do make to-die-for molasses cookies. And there are usually extra teenagers at meals, which is fun, or a neighbor dropping in for a cold beer at the end of the day. It has 12' ceilings and pink and white striped paper with a black floral border and battenburg lace curtains and white cabinets and a wood floor. There's a rocking chair for you to sit in and a bay window and a ceiling fan. And it will soon have dark green corian counters. If I ever measure the countertops and order. My two favorite possessions are the little clay man Ammo made me in second grade, "Mr Happy", and a pink pig teapot the boys gave me for Christmas one year.
Mr. Happy has lost a foot but he never stops smiling. He is an inspiration to us all.
