Our trade with the Middle East has produced nothing but instability. So that highlights the fallacy of your statement.

Trade with South Korea is a good example of bilateral win-win trade.

As far as dependencies on other commodities under an alternatives scenario, we don't have to be dependent on other countries. We have to develop our own sources for the new scarce commodities like lithium. Or invent our way to new means of storage, like all the research going into super capacitors. Where there is a will, there is a way.
