Angola to gain ‘submarine samba’ network?
Brazil's Communications Ministry said on Tuesday that a study is in progress to weigh up a plan to construct an underwater fibre-optic cable linking the South American country with Angola, with a final agreement on the joint project expected to be reached by mid-year. Dow Jones Newswires reports that the project, which will also involve Brazilian telecoms operator Oi and Angolan consortium Angola Cable, was discussed on Tuesday in Brasilia by Brazil's Communications Minister Paulo Bernardo and Angola's Telecommunications Vice-Minister Aristides Safeca. Other companies, possibly from other countries, may also have the opportunity to participate in the project, the cost of which is estimated at up to USD200 million, according to a Communications Ministry press officer.
