John, I think you have a good point. But, I think Iomega had to take this course as a strategy to establish Zip as a standard. As we all know in technology, time is measured in dog years. If Iomega hadn't taken this route it may have hindered their ability to satisfy their customers desire for storage, and we would have been looking at tie rates around 2 or 3 to 1 (IMHO) at this point, which would have only added to their "past" manufacturing woes. The inability to not ramp up quickly would have swung the door wide open for the LS-120 or other pseudo competitors. Obviously Iomega has a nice royalty agreement with each of these manufacturers that will allow Iomega to reap rewards from all these agreements I guess the point is I would rather see them get 30% (or whatever it is) from 100 million disks vs 50% of 2 million -- I know its an obvious exaggeration to prove a point - but just my opinion.

any other thoughts?
