Tim, I think you may be mistaken. First, regarding the ads, especially the wild dog/wolf one, I too did not "like" it. However, I have interviewed over 120 people you saw the ad. And believe it or not, EVERYONE of them could identify the company, and Website, Outpost.com. 100%.
Also, over 40% of American households have a PC, albeit only about 25-30 of Americans are currently online. Ads like these promote the company, (Outpost.com), AND the desire to "be online". TV is actually a great medium for COOL.
The marketing strategy is to be first, be best, be strong, be branded, be remembered, etc., which will lead to "be big".
In many ways we can get a bit of perpetuality here.
