Publicly listed nickel mining company PT International Nickel Indonesia (JSX:INCO) said it will build a new US$500 million nickel processing plant in Central Sulawesi.

Inco President Arif S. Siregar said the project will increase its production capacity by 200 million pounds in 2010.

The company already has a nickel smelter in Soroako, South Sulawesi producing 157.9 million pounds of nickel in matte last year. This year it has set a production target of 155 million – 165 million tons.

In 2005, Inco signed with PT Aneka Tambang (JSX:ANTM) a cooperation agreement under which Inco will supply nickel ore to be processed in the factory owned by the state-owned mining company in Pomalaa, Southeast Sulawesi.
