It's a game of calculus, you take the example to the limit to see what happens. If the result is a negative that a portion will be negative as well.

If there is $1 Trillion available for financing versus $800 Billion, you're better off with the $1 Trillion. You're able to finance more business at lower interest rates.

Freidman's example of asking "why not give them spoons instead of shovels" is great calculus.
