Its hard not to say that Novell is sitting exactly in the same position as Netscape did back in 1995/96 - will the suffer the same fate? Will the DOJ finally learn the lesson it has been missing all these years? I think those are more important questions than whether Novell is doling out $.10 options to execs who "haven't earned" them. Do I think that the DOJ has learned anything? NO! Is the DOJ going to go out of its way to accommodate NOVL? NO Look at the settlement they have agreed to!!!!!!!!This is in the end, let's face it, a political process..and NOVL as usual is way out of the loop to influence the outcome. They are too isolated out there in the mountains of Utah! I think there is a very good lesson to learn out this investment fiasco: it is all about Management Management Management STupid! It is not only about the dime options: The extensive record indicates that the more time NOVL managers have to lead this company the less equity the shareholders have. It is that simple. One aspect of the NOVL culture is that shareholders are way out there last in the list of things they care about.
