You are letting yourself get caught in the same trap you accuse others when you make that comment about Clarke. Why not approach it, not on the basis of some sort of overall judgment but look at specifics. I contend there are at least two specifics which are extremely helpful. The first is his treatment of what actually happened in the WH on 9-11. Until someone contradicts this account of where he was and what he did, it's the gold plated version. He explicitly says he's only telling his own story.

The second is the contrast between the way the Clinton administration handled the spike in chatter prior to the millenium and the beneficial consequences of it, as contrasted with the way the Bush folk handled the chatter spike in the summer of 01. I've not yet read any evidence that says he was seriously wrong about either.
