John: Iomega HAS to allow third parties to manufacture both the Zip Drive and the Disks. It will never become a standard without that kind of "second source" support.

You might want to note that Intel did this early on. AMD was one of those licensed second sources for the 8086 and 80286. It was only after their manufacturing position was really strong that Intel tried to cut off the competition they created.
