And Jim Jubak (of MSN) gives his Thumbs up to Pete: investor.msn.com "I had a feeling that Peter Kight, CEO of CheckFree Holdings Corp. (CKFR), was being just a tad too coy in his presentation Monday at the Hambrecht & Quist technology conference. After the market closed the next day, the company announced that its third-quarter earnings were exactly 0, as analysts had expected, but that fiscal 1999 earnings were likely to be 3 cents above Wall Street estimates of 32 cents a share. I think what I heard between the lines from Kight was that the company expects an acceleration of marketing efforts from its bank partners in the second half of calendar 1998. Major CheckFree customers proved that electronic bill paying worked for them in campaigns during the latter part of 1997.
