For many people Accutane is a Godsend and is an excellent drug in a league of its own for treating severe cases of acne. It is also widely used worldwide. The main problems are the extreme drying of the skin and lips as well as mucous membranes such as the nostrils. It is this drying effect that does produce the results and the trick is trying to find an appropriate dosage that provides a balance between side effects and drug efficacy. It also sensitizes the skin to the sun (UV) so care should be taken in warm sunny climates. One of the big problems is that it is teratogenic and it is imperative that any females being treated with it do not become pregnant for at least 2 years after discontinuing treatment.

I am under the impression that the Wasatch product exhibits virtually nil side effects yet shows an impressive cure rate. If it already FDA approved then given the choice I am sure most dermatologists would prefer the later option.

Time will tell.
