You probably don't remember my story about the black elders of Danville, VA, who all chipped in to bring a black doctor to their community so they would have a doctor in town who was willing to treat black folks. This was 1988.

I worked on a medical malpractice case brought by the daughter of a woman who was treated by him, and who subsequently died.

You could view that as a reflection on the doctor, but after all, he wasn't really competent to handle every kind of case, and he didn't get any help from the white medical community nor did the woman get much help from the hospital.

One problem with the case was, guess where the jury lived?

These things happen.

Some people feel most comfortable seeing their own kind.

Weird, but true.
