At least 8 hurt in fire at Calif. refinery - radio
SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 23 (Reuters) - At least eight workers were hurt in a fire that broke out at a crude refinery operated by Tosco Corp. (NYSE:TOS - news) in Avon, Calif., KCBS Radio in San Francisco reported on Tuesday.

An emergency worker told the station that eight people had been taken to the hospital and three of them were suffering from serious burns.

A company spokesman also confirmed that a fire had occurred at the facility at around 12:18 p.m. PST, and that the company's own emergency workers had extinguished the blaze by 12:30 p.m. PST.

The spokesman, being interviewed on the radio station, said he could not immediately comment on the number or the severity of injuries.

Earlier, the emergency worker told KCBS that the fire had also been declared a ''hazardous materials incident'' and said the injured people were being ''decontaminated'' at the hospital.

The refinery, located in Contra Costa County east of San Francisco, has an overall capacity of roughly 100,000 barrels a day, according to data from the California Energy Commission.
