I have a funny story to relate.
Some years ago I was at a restaurant with a bunch of people...the "influential" kind, you know the ones with lots of "savoir faire"...the kind the world likes to rub elbows with...
It was a pretty swanky place it was to me any way...the European stlye menu, you know the kind no no ne can understand, they just pretend they can..well to make a long story short...I ordered what I thought was Flounder with no hesitation, quite confident in my choice.
1/2 hr. later this barrage of waiters in their smartly dressed tux's swarmed around our table of 12....each one reciting, in an unknown language, each ones individual order as they placed it in front of them...when the waiter recited my order and put it in front of me....my stomach began to churn in disgust,lo and behold on this 2ft very delicatly designed platter lay this very ugly 2lb Trout, still dressed in all it's scales and fins and.... Head...Poached...!
All eyes were gazing at this platter, and it was a good thing because my eyes were bugging out... almost as bad as the eyes of the fish I was about to eat.....I couldn't believe that I now had to eat this thing in it's almost "just caught state"...that looked ast frightened as a deer on route 66
No way I thought, I just can't eat this thing that did not even have it's belly cut to drain out the guts...So now what do I do?
I did the only thing a respectable person could do....I put a dead fly on the dish, called the waiter back and showed him.....Nooo, I didn't do that, just kidding.....What I did do though was put my tail between my legs and admitted that I misunderstood the menu, and just couldn't eat that fish head and all...he was very gracious and without much ado I had a plate of lasagna in front of me in no time...
Talk about flounder...I was a bit embarrassed..and floundered through the rest of the evening..
