Neither the former owners or banks want to take possession on property that is less than half of its original value in places like fla, las vegas and parts of CA. There is no protection for lender or borrower when prices crash. Bet there were some naz investors who were heavily margined back in the day who wound up in the negative equity situation. That used to happen all the time in the commodities markets back in the day.
