>To understand the dynamics one must be familiar with Russian mentality and dogma, regardless of the type of regime. Since the Tzarist times and much more earlier Russia was an imperialistic bended nation dogged by drunkenness and laziness of its citizens, after all their ethnic roots are the Vikings who assimilated with the Slavs and lived mostly form plunder of neighboring territories for hundreds of years.

How do you explain the relatively peaceful surrender of power (in 1980s) by Russia/USSR to USSR's constituent republics and East Bloc nations? Empire breakdowns usually get much more violent. Could it be that the USSR and East Bloc nations were at one time truly bound by their belief in communism and that belief broke down by the realization of communism's failure? And the failure of communism pushed the republics back to the Strong Man mafiosi like rule that prevailed before communism. The same problem did not happen in other East Bloc nations, that had alternate systems prior to turning communist.
