Pace Micro's GBP-200 set-top box to record and do video conferencing in two years (1-12-99) (Daily Mail)

Pace quickens as digital TV starts to take off
Daily Mail

YOU will soon be able to pause TV programmes in the middle, automatically record football matches and use your television for video conference calls.

Pace Micro says its GBP 200 set-top boxes will include these features within two years. It hopes technological innovation will keep it ahead of competitors such as Philips in the fierce decoder market.

Pace is set for tasty profits this year, supplying boxes for Sky Digital, ONdigital, and cable groups CWC and NTL as they launch their digital television services.

Half-year- to-November profits were GBP 8.3m, against GBP 12.3m losses last time.

Pace shipped 400,000 set-top boxes and is struggling to meet demand.

Dividends rise 25pc to 0.25p. The shares, which have veered between 241 1 /2 p and 25 1 /2 p in two years, slipped 2p to 91 1 /2 p, or 21 times likely earnings.
