HI Claude; This ole Capt has enjoyed the adventure into the market,
but is have some second thougts about becoming overly tied down
to a computer sceen, and price changes.
To start with I'm a small fry with out the big bucks it would take
to really justify all the effort, at my age most of what I have has
to stay in more conservative stuff..I well over 60% about 65% in
fairly solid bonds and CDs..10% cash for to pick up a bargin or two
if I can find one, so that don't leave me a lot to play with.
Now over the years I'v turned a dollar or two looking around my
own local neiborhood and buying some real estate to later sell,
in fact I have a good deal just asking me to come do it. This is
sort of small time to..but hey I get to see what I'm buying.
But it all takes time too. My thing is with these equitities I
flat don't trust them, and if I'm going to have them I got to
watch them..so maybe I go more and more to the bonds, and back
my way out of this..make a trip or two offshore..man I done turned
down some good jobs playing this stuff too. I'l back out this
month for sure..and come back when I get to old to play with the
boats..right now I should be looking for a damm boat to buy..
instead of stocks. I really know tugs..had my own in the early
80s, done OK..till the oil field work dryed up..man it's hopping
right now and I'm sitting here missing it.
I told every one last year oil was king and before the market caught on too , to buy Hmar and TDW..any good driller or oil support
company they could find..now they will still do good , but the
market has priced them up..and they are cyclical..I mean they may
run another year or two..then they get over supply and it all
cuts back, and boats get over built ..and all that..but like
thats not the case right now. But that's were I should be..
that and beating the bushes around here for some local deals.
--------------------------
But I been saying that now for two months, and done bought more
crap this week to keep me as deep as ever..I got to be nuts.
I hate to back out just as I'm getting the hang of it all,
and it is interesting and offers me a lot to learn,
but still on the pratical side..if I was going to do this
I should'v started at it a long time ago..or not picked a time
when my field was jumping..Captains rates have almost doubled
since a year and a half ago, and I'm not braging when I say I'm
good with Tug..it's second nature with me..I rank with the best
of them..and I enjoy that most of the time. When bissness is good
the office ( arm chair captains don't mess with us so much..like
the roles get reversed and they kiss our butts a little ) <G>
AND I'm missing that too...now I got myself laughing I better
quit, before I say to much.

Jim
BTW I'v seen this over building in a lot of stuff over the years,
a sort of gold rush fever takes hold..take a good hard look at
the gambling stocks..all the river boat stuff..man they flooded
the market..half of them will go broke.. or are alread going that
way..( over supply )..every one and his brother opened up a
casino..or river boat tourest trap..that's winding down fast now,
so fast it's probable too late to short them..well I see that
happening before long with this internet stuff too..the new
companies coming on line a rate that exceeds the growth rate
of people coming on line..is going to make for some skinny
profits, and price wars and all that stuff. I can't say when
but I see the writing on the wall.
Jim
