If there are leasable blocks available within 6 miles of existing offshore CA platforms (there are several dozen or so such platforms built long ago when leasing was allowed offshore CA) they can be reached from those platforms. I don't know if there are any such blocks, nor do I know whether there are any good-looking geological prospects within that range. But if they are, drilling there could begin in months.

Other than that, you're right IMMEDIATE drilling couldn't begin. Thats no reason not to open up leasing though. Because by the time the leasing, geological evaluation, permitting, etc process is done rigs will be available.

As Jay Leno said, Democrats say we shouldn't drill in the Alaskan wildlife refuge because it would take 10 years to get oil out. Course thats what they said 10 years ago too.

Why continue a foolish policy?

Must be bad to have a candidate that makes less sense than Paris Hilton.
