OFFTOPIC. Re:<<<did anyone have success trading with a discount broker?>>>.

Yes -- I made four trades through my Citigold (Citibank) on-line (not internet) account on Monday and Tuesday. All went through immediately without problem, though confirmation of one of the trades was a little slow in coming. No problem with real time quotes either. Commissions are about the same as a regular (not E-Schwab) Schwab account, with 20% off for trading on-line. The software interface is pretty barebones, however.

I also have accounts at Schwab, both regular and E-. Until recently I thought Schwab was pretty good, and was considering switching my Citibank money there to get the lower E-Schwab commissions. However, I find the StreetSmart/E-Schwab software to be overly elaborate and lately the Internet site has been unacceptably slow -- in fact, not working properly at all (I may need a better browser or more RAM). Would probably have done some trading on Schwab yesterday if it was working properly!

Don't know if a regular Citibank brokerage account would have provided the same level of good on-line service. I don't think that you can get real time quotes with a regular account -- you would have to call an account rep. The Citigold account requires certain minimum balances to open up.
