Rode out Frances in my hurricane shuttered West Palm condo with a large stockpile of supplies -- water, canned food, portable radios, flashlights, batteries, etc.

A pretty scary experience Saturday night with sustained winds around 70 m.p.h. for some hours, but there was no structural damage to the condo although many nearby trees came down. The more northern counties of Martin, Indian River, and St Lucie bore the brunt of the storm, but almost everybody in Palm Beach County lost power, and the roads were covered by fallen trees and downed power lines.

My power just came back after being out for 4 days, but many here still without electricity. Nothing like being without power for a few days to show how much we need and depend upon it.

The local radio stations here did an outstanding job of keeping the public informed via extensive round the clock coverage and talk shows when most could not watch TV because of the power situation.
