Netscape and Novell

If Netscape and Novell got together to announce they were going to think about putting a Netscape web server on top of a Novell NOS the Microsoft spin doctors would trot out Jamie Lewis of PCWeek to say the deal would bog down Netscape in supporting a "backward looking" NOS. Its called propaganda.

Try bogging yourself down in 60 million customers. Sounds like revenue heaven to me. The sooner Netscape bogs itself down in these 60 million customers the sooner it has a future.

Netscape buying Novell would be ridiculous. Netscape partnering with Novell would be practical.
I favor the timing of the announcement right around when MSFT is fending off rumors that the Feds will force it to split off its OS from its browser.

Netscape is bound to wake up to the fact that MSFT doesn't believe in open standards. But if they don't do it soon, then pushing NT as the platform for their web server will dig Netscapes grave that much quicker.

Since when do you have to give up your principles to form a partnership with a company that uses a different set of protocols?
