Don't forget Elektra dancing herself to death, one of my favorite forms of suicide! No mess, no nasty clean-up, maybe a little puddle of sweat. I'm really pretty limited in my listening. Mostly to the coluraturas as that's what I pretend to be. But my favorite Puccini soprano is Kiri te Kanawa-we saw her a few years ago and she is glorious. Actually I haven't heard that much Moffo-just excerpts. Do you know about Puccini's wacky wife? OK-now I'm listening to Moffo singing Caro Nome from Rigoletto and it's not shabby. Very fluty up top, kinda gutsy low. I'm not familiar with Ludwig. I've seen two Hansels and don't remember the witches except that they were older women losing their range and talking a lot of the role--great acting part and a real showstealer. I took each of the boys to one opera last year. Adam got H and G, CW got Rigoletto. Cw also got Vanessa by default but only made it through half--pretty good for Barber, except that for me now Vanessa is forever wandering out in the snow...
