see my response on the value thread. As you know how I thought the whole aig thing was questionable, and that Paulson and Geithner, if this were China might be in front of firing squads right now. but the suit by the SEC in the abacus matters bordered on the frivolous. I still think that most people dont understand that with a synthetic derivative its all make believe. there is no real colleteral and no real mortgages or interest being paid associated with the synthetic derivative. its just bet between two or more parties on specific outcomes. So it has to be originated by either a buyer or a seller. Now if GS comes to me and says we have synthetic derivative for sale do you want to buy it? I should know immediately that it was put together with significant imput from the seller, otherwise i have rocks for brains. Thus to say after the fact that GS should have formally disclosed that information seems silly, and to say that gs should have disclosed who the seller was is even more silly. As far as GS going up or not, I expect I will hold this a very long time. . I think the company should earn $15-20 most years and is now selling for an adjusted book of about $140-$145. They are the leader in a world that will continue to need more and more global financing and M&A expertise. I will be happy to sit and let the NW continue to build up .
