History: It's survived and grown despite its share of missteps, showing tremendous resiliency in the stock market and with customers.

Perception: A vastly different company than it was a year ago. No more deferred membership costs hanging around the balance sheet -- made the conversion competitive flat-rate pricing -- signed some significant marketing deals -- and watched another year go by with all those competitors and technologies that were supposed to sweep it right off the stage still standing in the wings.

Bottom line: A volatile stock, for certain. It could go down $10 tomorrow, as well as up by that amount. But when all is said and done, it still looks to me like a stock that will get the shorts in a lot more trouble than the longs.
