A lot of this stuff reflects a chance to get away with stuff that was impossible when Saddam was running things, and will be impossible again once a real police force and government is in place. Two separate problems, as I see it. With us not in the towns, the Police in the Sunni area should have an easier time than if they are fighting the fundamentalists in the Shiite area. Sounds like the Shiite Police are going along with the Mullah. But our reports are so fragmentary that is is difficult to say. When our reporters want to know what the people think of us, they head to an area where they know they will get a lot of negative imput. Bad news get published.
