We do need a strong military because we don't live in a safe world w/o danger. We enjoy what we have - and I mean freedoms in addition to material things - because we fought for them in the past and presently have the power to keep and preserve them. It is true that "We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm."

And the world as a whole is as safe and prosperous as it is because we are the superpower and can deter for a time the rise of less benevolent powers. We are living in an unusually benevolent period of history. You don't realize this, you think the world is a garden with no dangers in it.

Your wish that these things not be true combined with your anti-military bias toward the military (which you've betrayed by your past comments about keeping military personnel out of universities, as an example) makes you want us to have a weak military. Therefore you deny or belittle real dangers like the Iranian nuclear threat and international terrorism.
