Good point, Les. That's about what my grandfather made, and he barely was able to hold onto his house purchased in 1928.

Lots of folks were paid in commodities instead of cash at that time also. Banks were also a bit more generous with folks about mortgage payments (at least in our area), as they didn't want all the housing inventory.

Another interesting note about that era is that I believe the average mortgage was about 5-years in length.
