"You would uphold a treaty the other side isn't keeping? "

What treaty is that, Brumar? They didn't violate the word of the Framework. It didn't cover enrichment of uranium. Probably because a) that wasn't the immediate problem being addressed, and b) that was already covered with the NPT, of which NK was a signatory.

But they WERE enriching uranium in violation of the NPT so why keep the Framework? The Framework was to prevent proliferation. What do you think it was for?

Voiding the Framework was just the sort of Smirk stupidity that we have since gotten used to. Someone does something you don't like? Then find something unrelated to the issue, but something you wanted to change and then claim they are the same so you can do what you have been wanting to do all along.

Thats a silly mischaracterization of the facts.

NK announced it had nukes in Feb 2005. How did they develop them so fast if they hadn't been working on them all along?

He was wanting to do something about the Framework all along. He used their violation of the NPT to cancel the Framework.

Here you're saying NK's violation of the NPT was no big deal and we should've kept to the Framework Agreement anyway. I repeat - what they heck do you think the Framework Agreement was all about if not preventing NK nuclear proliferation?

"We're not talking about broaching the DMZ "

Whoops. There goes the goal posts again. You wanted to know when we have held their feet to the fire over their attempts to cheat. I provided the canonical case.

No, you changed the goalposts by bringing up the DMZ. You claim we could have "held their feet to the fire" and kept them from developing nukes, but above you just gave your tacit approval to their violation of the NPT. See what I underlined - you admit they violated the NPT but think it shouldn't have mattered to us.

------------------------------------------------

"They are. They've also violated the NPT treaty by trying to hide their enrichment program."

Correct.

"The IAEA and UNSC unaniminously agrees they're in violation."

Correct.

Ok. I will take this slow, Brumar. Because you seem to be unable to put all the pieces together.

What is the only country to have withdrawn from the NPT?

North Korea.<

What has the US done about it?

Nothing. As near as i can tell, we haven't even officially protested this action.

We stopped paying them bribes not to cheat on the NPT after we knew they were cheating on the NPT. You don't like that because it means the end of the Framework Agreement - though I await what value you think the Framework had at that point.

How important does the US think the NPT is?

I'd say not very much. Given how we are in non-compliance with many parts of the NPT, I'd say there is even more proof.

I think the NPT is pretty important. How you can claim to think so when you think we should have kept giving NK things after they cheated on the NPT.

Despite your claims to the contrary, Iran isn't run by morons.

Its run by fanatics. I have no idea how smart they are.

If non-compliance is openly tolerated, why should they worry about it?

Yet you think we should have tolerated it in NK's case.

Its amazing to see a liberal act as defense counsel for two of the most hideous rogue regimes in the world. But we know that to you the only bad guys are Bush and American conservatives.
