Regarding the $50 rebate. A couple of considerations to chew on:

1. July, August and September are notoriousely slow periods. Iomega is just doing some sound Marketing 101. Keeping interest in the products during a slow period.

2. Installed base, installed base, installed base. Hard to believe, but Iomega is one of the few technology companies that actually understands the benefits of database marketing. The more they capture with the rebate, the more installed base they have to market blades to.

3. New Zip. This could be an indication that Iomega is getting ready to release a new Zip for the holiday season. Consider that the Zip 100 was released in March 95, and according to "Moore's Law" (Intel founder - who came up with a theory that technology needed to evolve every 18 - 24 months to remain competitive -- more or less) that would put the Zip 100 at just over 18 months. So it could be time to release the Zip 200.

If 3 is correct how would that affect the relationships with OEMs, and is it possible that all of these OEM agreements are for Zip 200 (sorry just speculating again).

best regards,
