DOWNLOAD PROBLEMS
I tried to download Quicktime using this link:
bushin30seconds.org

CLick on one of the versions (high bandwidth, low bandwidth) and you get a window saying "Click here to get the plug-in".

Then a window comes up requesting OS type, language, and name and email. There is a "Download Quicktime" button. Clicking on it get s a window indicating that the download should start automatically, but it doesn't. There is another button to click to get it started in that case. I clicked it.

Then a small window appears titled "Downloading QuickTimeInstaller.exe.xls". (I believe it is that .xls extension that is the problem.) "Save this file to disk" is selected and I clikced OK. A new window comes up allowing the place the file is to be saved to to be specified. I put it on "My Documents". "Save as type" is set to .xls initially. The other choice available is "All types". I have tried both. If ".xls" is chosen, the file is saved, but clicking on it results in a window being opened that says "The file is not in a recognizable format". THere are OK, Cancel, and Help buttons on it. Clicking on them results in nothing useful.
If "All types" is chosen, the download never starts.

Thoughts? I think I have something set wrong somewhere that causes files to be saved with an .xls extension because this has happened with other downloads.

I am running Windows XP.
