There is no reason why the Dems cannot own 60+% of the population *and* the states. Sticking with healthcare, education, and better income equality will go a long way to fix the problem and is compatible with their roots. The parts Dems have to give up are the more GOP leanings that is best represented by HRC supporters - namely globalization, overt H1B visas, and anti-manufacturing policies...I'd throw in the trigger-happy missile diplomacy in there too, though it is not as big of an issue domestically - it can still lead the party to wage very unpopular wars.
