Yes I thought of the marine barracks after my post, but I would say that suicide bombing requires a certain type of courage. But a steady campaign of trying to attack deployed US military assets would be unlikely to see continued success and would likely result in painful repercussions for at least some of the people involved in planning and supporting the attack. Of course if it was a matter of frontal assault the odds of sucess would be just that much lower. (Although its not like Americans can't be defeated in battle, esp. if we send an inadequate force like Task Force Smith or Somalia, or make stupid mistakes.)
