I dont think this letter has much significance. Late in July when
JTC did not approve Sun's application to make Java a standard with
ISO/IES, Sun had 90 days to respond and since the deadline is coming near the WINTEL group by sending this open letter wants to make sure
that SUN does not get to make JAVA standard with ISO/IES while keeping
control of the JAVA. This was to be expected.I dont think Sun will get approvel. they will keep the control of JAVA but it wont become standard. I dont think WINTEL companies expect SUN to cede control.
