orcl: i am plenty into orcl and added more w. fears/gossip of earning problems this qurter. i love orcl. .. i always add every fear.. last time i even bot a short term option when it hit 35 (before split).
msft: i have done well w. msft that i bot last year. i recently bot some at 130-135-140 lvl and not doing well w. those. i mostly afraid of power and muscles of msft. as for technology, even my son hates microsoft. but who says you have to be good for stock to perform ? Preception is msft is the king.
(please read- last two days of msg on msft how high will it fly? you will find it entertaining, atleast glance over some msgs)
asnd: i bailed out of asnd leaps today. asnd stock would not be bad but the leaps involves timing. i had jan 99 asnd 45 sold at ~10. So asnd would have to be 55 to break even ant 65 for me to make money.
according to following estimate of 1997 and 1998 EPS estimates to $1.30 and $1.70 a share 30% growh from 97 to 98 1.70*30= $51 for 98 end. this is awful if these estimates are correct. ---------------- details... ASCEND COMMUNICATIONS (ASND) 40 CLOSED. More bad news is cascading on this computer networking issue this morning as Goldman Sachs and Salomon Brothers are jumping on the bandwagon by lowering earning estimates. Goldman Sachs cuts 3rd qtr EPS to $0.31 from $0.36 a share. Meanwhile, Salomon has downgraded Ascend to a "hold" from a "buy" and cut 1997 and 1998 EPS estimates to $1.30 and $1.70 a share, respectively, from $1.40 and $1.90 a share due to weaker than-expected sales of its 56K line cards for MAX TNT. Yesterday, Morgan Stanley cut Ascend's 3rd qtr EPS estimate by two cents to $0.33 a share, prompting the stock to lose $2 9/16 on very heavy trading. Concerns remain on how quickly the company can sell its 56K modem technology and the impact the latest acquisition/merger/exchange between WorldCom (WCOM 35 15/16), CompuServe (CSRV 13 15/16) and America Online (AOL 76 5/16) will have on future modem sales. It seems that the stock can't catch a break at the moment as the issue is projected to open close to $3 below yesterday's closing level, which would leave the stock about $1 above its 52-week low. It should be noted that the concerns that have surfaced are all short-term related, as Morgan still sees strong demand for Ascend products and Goldman, despite its earnings cut, still keeps the stock on its recommended list. Thus, while Ascend will come under selling pressure this morning, longer-term investors could view this as an opportunity to get in.
oh - very important: for purpose of buying leaps what should be conservative dec -98 target for sun? |
